Afternoon roudtable with Alfonso Aguilar, Chief of the Office of Citizenship

On Monday afternoon I went to a meeting organized by the Immigrant and Refugee taskforce to hear Alfonso Aguliar. He gave this presentation
as part of his outreach. This is the first city he has visited as the new head of Citizenship and Immigration Services Office of Citizenship. Chief Aguilar gave his presentation in English and Spanish. The topics he covered were;

1. Support for the Presidents immigration reform Proposal "Our economy cannot be sustained without immigration. We are a nation of immigrants. This quote was from President Bush's State of the Union Speech.

2. CIS will reduce backlogs and reduce processing times to 6 months nationwide. Immigrants are customers to be treated with respect.

3. As the first chief he wants to engage immigrants as they arrive in the U.S. They will publish a guide for new immigrants in 10 languages which will be distributed for free.

He looks forward to partnering with community and faith based organizations; state and local governments. We also discussed partnering with Chambers of Commerce.
